New inequalities caused by digital media in higher education?
Academic presentations can be uploaded in their original slide format. Presentations are usually represented as slide decks. Videos of presentations can be uploaded as media.
In order to verify the assumption that digital media do not reduce inequality in the higher education system, 10 biographical interviews were conducted with students from four disciplines of one German university. The interviews focus on the practice of learning and studying with digital media, which make it possible to reconstruct the habitus and the milieu (Bourdieu 1982; Lange-Vester 2012). Habitus and the milieu make it possible to develop typologies of the practice of using digital media, which helps to understand new forms of inequality in higher education through digital technologies. These typologies will be presented at the conference.
